1577 Marguerite of Valois by Nicholas Hilliard (Berger Collection of the Denver Art Museum, Denver USA)

Posted to Foro Dinastias by Prdroro on 18 December 2010.

All Ladies portrayed by Hilliard wore small neck ruff wheels. Marguerite's bodice is spectacularly adorned with a gold and ruby necklace. She wears puffed sleeves adorned with slashes showing dark underlying meterial. Hillird's Ladies also have jewel-spangled hair and Marguerite is no exception. A carcanet necklace peeks out intermittently from beneath her deeply pleated ruff.
