Oval photo of Empress Eugénie by Charles Jacotin

Empress Eugénie wears an early bustle dress with square neckline enhanced by a lace tucker in this Charles Jacotin photo.

From the New York City Public Library archives; sepia tone removed by gogm.

Empress Eugénie wears an elaborate coiffure from around 1870 and her dress appears to have a bustle. Her long sleeves end in engageantes-like lace cuffs and a lace tucker conceals part of her square neckline.
