ca. 1835 Lady, said to be a member of the Olenin family by ? (Christie's)

Christie's notes for this follow:  "RUSSIAN SCHOOL, CIRCA 1835

A lady, said to be a member of the Olenin family, in blue dress with ruched bodice and large puff sleeves, three-strand necklace with an emerald-set clasp, gem-set drop earrings, her upswept hair in a bun
oval, 4 7/8 in. (124 mm.) high, gilt-metal mount."

This delightful portrait shows the approach of "Victorian" style in Russia with straight hair, Gigot sleeves, and a supported full skirt (with crinoline fabric?). The bateau neckline is a holdover from Romantic era dress.

Keywords:  1835, Olenin family, Russian, straight coiffure, bun, off shoulder bateau neckline, pleated bodice, Gigot sleeves, vee waistline, full skirt, necklace, earrings
