Posted to the Alexander Palace Time machine Discussion Forum by Mersan on 16 October 2011; the image was heavily spotted and there were tear marks in the turban and elsewhere that were fixed with Photoshop. The spotting was sufficiently heavy to require blurring the background. An idea of how spotted the image was can be seen in the lower parts of the coiffure where I did some spot removal, but not a thorough job because the appearance of her coiffure would be changed from what was in the original.
Maria Cristina's turban turns out to not be a turban wound around her head - it is the top of a hat. Maria Cristina's order decorations are very close to those of Queen of Spain Maria Cristina's.
