Marguerite de Valois wears a gorgeous gown and a shallow necklace partially obscured by her partlet in this Clouet painting.

This shows how a ruff is attached to a collar. Her sleeves are decorated with spiral bands with slashed fabric in between emerging from rolls. Her upper, shallow necklace, is partially hidden by her gauzy partlet.
