Noblewoman, said to be Queen Mary, half-length, in an embroidered pink dress with a black jewelled overdress, a ruff and a jewelled hair ornament by ? (auctioned by Bonhams)

From www.pinterest.com/myladyswardrobe/1570s-and-1580s-english-portraits; a large crack extending from top to bottom was filled in with Photoshop by gogm so the source image shows a slightly narrower face and dress. The location of the crack is shown by darkly colored material near center-left at the bottom.

The artist depicts the sitter's striking jewelry and the fabrics and ornaments of her dress in great detail. She wears a long bag compartmented by aglet-like jewels, possibly to hold scent.

Keywords:  English, straight coiffure, jeweled headdress, high enclosing neckline, neck ruff, vest bodice, hanging sleeves, under-dress, full under-sleeves, carcanet necklace, aglets
