1563 Holy Roman Emperor Maximilian II of Austria and his wife Infanta Maria of Spain with their children by Giuseppe Arcimboldi (Schloß Ambras - Innsbruck Austria)

The Habsburgs ruled Spain as well as Austria  making this international marriage a marriage of first cousins. She was deeply religious, returning to Spain after Maximilian died to become a nun, but Maximilian was not. Her daughter Anna married King Felipe II of Spain. This Infanta Maria's Wikipedia article is here.

Maria wears a plain black coat adorned solely with aglets over a gold and white dress with a very relaxed vee waistline. She bore a short-lived daughter in February 1564. A satin train (?) emerges from her coat. She wears a large wedge-shaped ornament on her head with the point ending behind the ear.
