English Ladies wore colorfully embroidered jackets in the early 1600s. The skirt is adorned with gathered strips of sheer fabric emerging from the goffered edge of Lady Grey’s jacket. Her jacket provides inner sleevesrevealed by her fur-trimmed surcote in Spanish style. Her headdress, a lace attifet surrounded by an outer ruff, is striking.
