ca. 1590 Ball in the Ducal Palace in honor of a visiting Prince by Giacomo Franco

From starlight-masquerade-venetian-renaissance-costume-69-giacomo-franco.

While the men wear the wheel-like ruffs, the women wear vee-necklines with ruffs behind their heads; some necklines plunge to below the bustline suggesting a modesty piece is needed. The dresses have partlets that wrap around to below the shoulders. Several women wear horned coiffures. The sleeve rolls are very narrow and just identify the place where the sleeve joins the bodice. The women appear to be wearing bum rolls rather then farthingales.
