Gentildonna by Bartolomeo Veneto (Timken Art Gallery - San Diego, California USA)

Her sleeves, puffed from shoulder to elbow and closer from elbow to wrist, would be called gigot sleeves in the 1830s. These sleeves were in style in the 1510s. Her dress looks too big for her; she may be using a bum roll to widen her skirt.

Keywords:  Veneto - Bartolomeo, Italian, straight coiffure, jeweled turban, partlet, collar, vee neckline, bodice, bateau neckline, gigot sleeves, slashed sleeves, cuffs, waist band, bows, natural high waistline, peplum, full skirt, necklace, gloves
