1540 Florentine noblewoman possibly by Agnolo di Cosimo ("Bronzino") (San Diego Museum of Art, San Diego California)

This Bronzino shows a Florentine lady wearing a gorgeous green gown with a ruff-like collar and how a collar could evolve into a ruff. Slashing, as seen on her sleeves, persisted into the next century. This dress has a natural waistline - no vee waistline (pointed bodice).
