1540-1545 Unknown lady, possibly of the Bodenham family by ? (Parham Park, Storrington UK)

This unknown lady wears a dress with sleeves swollen towards the bottom and a French hood where the back billement is essentially triangular. This portrait is reminiscent of the famous Queen Mary portrait by Ewoth. The sleeves are remarkable, an ergonomic nightmare with all of the mass, the puffs filled with false sleeves, hanging below the elbow - a hands down favorite.

Keywords:  straight coiffure, trapezoidal neckline, French hood, long lower puffed sleeves, false sleeves, slashed sleeves, cuffs, vee waistline, over-skirt, kirtle, blackwork, necklace, brooch
