These are Sotheby’s auction notes, Google translated from French:  "Princess Elvira of Bavaria (1868-1924) was the granddaughter of King Ludwig I of Bavaria. In 1891 she married Count Rudolf Wrunk-Kaunitz-Rietberg-Questenberg und Freudenthal (1854-1927). He was a rich landowner who owned land in Moravia, including Castle Holleschau near Kremsir. He also owned huge land and the vast Jarmeritz castle near Brünn.

His family, very old and of Silesian origin, dating from the 13th century, was ennobled in 1642.

The painting presented here shows Princess Elvira at 17 years old. Between 1889 and 1891 she was abbess of St. Anne's Abbey in Wurzburg. On her marriage to Count Rudolf, her sister Clara became abbess of St. Anne.

Elvira and her husband had two children, Rudolf (1892-1936) and Isabella (1894-1964), later Countess Esterházy de Galántha.

Karl Gampenrieder was one of Princess Elvira's favorite painters. He painted her several times. This portrait, executed in 1885, launched his career as a portraitist of Munich's high society.” Two images in this Subalbum, this one and this one, are also by Gampenrieder.

From Sotheby's Web site; the upper two thirds of the left edge (above her train) were fixed with Photoshop.

Princess Elvira wears a wonderful example of second bustle era evening dress with slim skirt in this 1885 illustration after Gampenrieder. Her overskirt appears to originate at her left side and drape to her right.
