Margherita di Savoia in black by Mathilde de Ruinart Brimont (auctioned by Wannenes)

This portrait may date to about 1901 when King Umberto was assassinated as a result of his praising General Fiorenzo Bava-Beccaris who used gun- and artillery-fire to suppress bread riots in Milan in 1898, killing 400 and wounding another 2000.

From the lost gallery's photostream on flickr; removed many linear flaws and some of the more obvious spots and fixed the left side of the bottom edge with Photoshop and filled in shadows. The background was blurred.
