1884 Edith, Lady Playfair, née Russell, by John Sargent (Museum of Fine Arts - Boston, Massachusetts, USA) UPGRADE From museum's Web site #240659

Lady Playfair makes effective use of gold satin and black in this portrait, probably emphasized by Sargent. Her cuirasse bodice ends with a vee rather than a basque line. The portrait does not emphasize her expansive bustle, but the strip of gold at the left shows it is there.
