1875 Corset cuirasse in black satin with 34 bones worn over a day chemise with a crayfish tail (Musée municipal de Vire - Vire, Basse-Normandie France)

From www.histoire-costume.fr/lexposition-le-corset-ou-lelegance-contrainte.

This shows how chemise, corset, and bustle work together. The corset is laced in back, but can be opened from the front with its split busk held by fasteners. The bustle is held, at least for display, by nothing more than a cord.
