ca. 1903 (estimate based on age of youngest child, Mafalda) Elena of Montenegro (Library of Congress Bain Collection - Washington, DC, USA)

The Wikimedia caption states Elena was photographed with her daughters Yolanda (b. 1 June 1901) and Mafalda (b. 2 November 1902). According to Elena’s Wikipedia article and those for these children, Yolanda died of natural causes. Mafalda was imprisoned in Buchenwald concentration camp where she worked in an ammunition factory there. She was fatally wounded by an allied air raid and died on 27 August 1944.

From the USA Library of Congress via Wikimedia. This image was heavily reworked to remove smudges and spots and also and possible palm print and numerous small spots throughout the image with Photoshop. An old embossed copyright note was also removed with Photoshop. Removing the possible palm print altered the back of Elena’s coiffure.
