Second-oldest Charlotte (center) assumed the throne of Luxembourg after her older sister Maria Adelheid stepped down in 1919. There were six sisters in all.

The use of diaphanous materials for over dresses and slim lines of late pre-War style can be seen in this photo of three of the Luxembourg Princesses. The over-dresses use lace over lighter-colored dresses underneath. Charlotte's dress has a waist band.
