1717 Tsaritsa Catherine I by Jean-Marc Nattier (Hermitage)

She was the second wife of Tsar Peter the Great. She took over when Peter died, the first in a series of Tsaritsas who would rule Russia for almost a century.

Tsaritsa Catherine I’s skirt looks eighteenth century while her sleeves look seventeenth century in this 1717 Nattier portrait.
