1780 La reine Marie-Antoinette dans le parc de Versailles (wearing a polonaise and apron) by Élisabeth-Louise Vigée-Lebrun (location unknown)

Marie Antoinette is portrayed by Vigee-Lebrun in 1780 dressed to impress while she walks around the park at Versailles.

Marie Antoinette wears a polonaise, a dress with three pouffs of material resting on the skirt, with an apron in this Vigée-Lebrun picture. The pouffs were arranged symmetrically with one in front of or, here, behind the trunk and the other two meeting on the opposite side, a trefoil. The skirt is a full maxi-length skirt covered by a layer of banded muslin that adds a delicate touch. The pouff towards her front is fringed with two swags of puffed cloth ornaments, one above the other. There may be an over-skirt beneath the pouffs and above the muslin. Her apron is edged by ruched material on the side and two flounces along the bottom. A large triangular collar extension edged with a ruffle covers much of her back while her sleeves appear to have small forward and back flared engageantes adorned with a bow. She wears a flower-decorated hat and a high straight coiffure and carries a large fan.
