Marie-Antoinette wears an enormous, seemingly carnivorous, skirt in this 1777 portrait. The bottom of her neckline is formed by the wings of a bow. Her sleeves appear to have small back-flared engageantes above her cuffs. The skirts have ruffles adorned with sparkling tinsel-like ornaments. Compare her coiffure to one worn by the princess de Lamballe.
