1745 Vittoria Maria Elisabetta Gazzelli di Selve e di San Sebastiano by Maria Giovanna Clementi (Palazzo Mazzetti - Asti, Piemonte, Italy)

The museum’s notes translate roughly to, "Vittoria Maria Elisabetta Gazzelli di Selve, portrayed by Clementi with a rich robe hidden by the large mantle, was married to Count Giuseppe Giovanni Alfassio Grimaldi in 1739 (he died about 1779); was the daughter of the Earl of Selve and San Sebastian, councilor, senator and first referendum status of S. M. The restoration of the canvas showed that the bust of the noblewoman was originally framed by an oval, the removal of which involved some changes, including the reconstruction of the right hand. The intense activity of Clementina is documented both for the Savoys, with portraits posted at the Italian and foreign courts, and for the nobility of Turin.” I cannot find other biographical or genealogical information for the Count or Countess.

Vittoria wears a dark gold brocade over-dress with split bodice and a dark under-dress over a chemise in her Clementi portrait. I originally posted this to about 1700, but the museum dates it to 1745 and the marriage date rules out dating this to about 1700.
