Change is in the hair, not the dress. Chairs lack arm rests and women were using the bulk of the panniers as impromptu arm rests. Compare this portrait to the similar portrait of the Comtesse de Maleissye to see that change is largely confined to the coiffure. This image shows her shoes almost in their entirety and also shows a purse.
