ca. 1725-1740 Casaquin and petticoat Italian (probably Venetian)

Several images of casaquins and caracos are gathered together beginning with this image in the Louis XVI album. These outer garments came into vogue in the late 1770s and 1780s. Here is an example of something that could be called a casaquin or also a paletot - from when George II was King of England. Like a paletot, this casaquin converts a dome-and-stick shape to a cone shape. The embroidery is gorgeous.
