From the Wikipedia article about this work that includes biographical information; image enlarged by half by gogm. She was Francis Ayscough's second wife, the first having died after having three children. Augusta Anne had these three and three more.

Lady Cockburn wears a later 1700s British casual dress with a criss-cross bodice over a chemise, both with vee necklines, in this 1773 Reynolds portrait.
