Laura is seated to the left. They were born illegitimately, the daughters of Hon. Sir Edward Walpole and Dorothy Clement.

Laura and Charlotte go head-to-head and toe-to-toe with their French counterparts wearing dresses with gushing lace engageantes, frills, and ruching in this 1765 Ramsay portrait. Laura wears a bodice with bow en échelle. Both bodices have stomachers framed by revers.
