1764 Anne Germaine Larivée de Vermenoux by Jean Étienne Liotard (private collection)

From Ciudad de la pintura.

Heather Carroll of The Duchess of Devonshire's Gossip Guide to the 18th Century blog posted this image for a vote to approve or not ("Yay or nay). The result was "Poor Anne-Germaine Larrivee; she thought out of the box and it was unsuccessful.  Her blue and white disaster earned her a Nay." The dress is just too busy. A commenter, heidenkind, noted "The pearls are just too much. It's a little gaudy for me. Nay!" Her dress with its colorful sash resembles the sheath dresses of the 1780s.
