1752 Lady Hall of Dunglass by Allan Ramsay (Tate Collection - London UK)

The sitter is probably Magdalen Pringle whose article in theperage is here.

These albums show thousands of images of spectacularly dressed Ladies. Here is an exception, the severely, almost Puritanically, dressed Lady Hall of Dunglass. Her head appears to be covered by a hood with the ends draped down the front of her dress, held in place by a strap. The bulge behind suggests she is wearing a robe à la française.

Keywords:  1752, Ramsay, Lady Magdalen Pringle, Pringle family, Hall family, British, hood, high enclosing neckline, three-quarter length close sleeves, engageantes, panniers, robe à la française
