1734 Lady Frances Montagu in bridesmaid dress for royal wedding of Princess Royal Anne by Charles Jervas (private collection)

She had a son named John (Burgoyne) who successfully conducted campaigns in India. He is not the General Burgoyne who lost at Saratoga, New York.

Lady Frances is showing the British, typically portrayed in luxurious casual attire, could put on a grand show wearing this glittering bridesmaid dress. While her dress is wide in 1700s style, it has a draped over-skirt - it is a mantua.
