ca. 1638 Isabella, Lady de la Warr by Sir Anthonis van Dyck (Museum of Fine Arts Boston - Boston, Massachusetts, USA)

She was probably Isabella Edmunds whose genealogical sketch is here. She was married to Sir Henry West, 4th Baron de la Warr. His father, Thomas West, 3rd Lord De La Warr, was Governor of the Virginia colony who died at sea. Some geographic entities, a river, bay, and territory that became a state in the USA, as well as a first nation people were named “Delaware,” a contraction of the family name.

Lady Isabella’s dress is almost a copy of some worn by Queen Henrietta Maria.
