1901 (portrait date) Black silk velvet with cut-out decorations in Liberty style, garnished with chenille drawstring on the triangular neckline manufactured in Naples or Palermo (Palazzo Pitti - Firenze, Toscana, Italy)

The portait at upper left shows this dress, but Franca’s husband had it rdone in 1924 to show something more modest. This portrait no longer exists.

This dress comes with a capelet that has a high enclosing neckline to conceal the vee décolletage and the counterpart in back. This is presumably an over-dress so a white under-garment or lining would show through the open-work of the dress and capelet.
