Finding her genealogical sketch proved difficult. She was overshadowed by her journalist daughter Marion who worked in the anti-Hitler resistance, lived, and became editor and then publisher of Hamburg’s Die Zeit newspaper.

Maria’s dress looks like a negligée with its sacque back, sheer flaring sleeves with bare shoulders, and numerous frills. The dress has a substantial train.
