1760-1761 Portrait of Marie-Josephe de Saxe, Dauphine of France and her son Louis Joseph Xavier de France, 1751-61 Duke of Burgundy by Maurice-Quentin de la Tour (location unknown to gogm)

The Duke of Burgundy wears a blue sash as does the figure portrayed in upper center of this symbol-rich dual portrait, presumably Dauphin Louis. The bust to left probably represents Loui XV. The boy would have been heir to the throne had he survived childhood, but he died at age nine. His younger brother Louis-Auguste did survive Louis XV and the Dauphin to become the ill-fated Louis XVI.

The French were fond of the forward-back flared engageantes as shown by this de la Tour portrait of the crown princess of France.
