Christie's notes for this item include, "The portrait -- which bears a label on the verso of the relining canvas that reads 'peint par N de Largilliere (on back of original canvas)' -- can be dated to circa 1715-20 by the soft, powdery manner of its handling and the style of the sitter's costume."

This image shows detail of the worked and jeweled double vee half bodice probably made of leather fashionable at the turn of that century.
