Queen Luise, née Luise Auguste Wilhelmine Amalie of Mecklenburg-Strelitz, was a Prussian heroine known for charity to the poor and for standing up to Napoléon. According to her Wikipedia article, Napoléon tried to destroy her reputation, but only succeeded in enhancing it. Her son Friedrich Wilhelm became King of Prussia from 1840 to 1857, succeeded by her second son Wilhelm I who ruled Prussia, and later Germany, from 1857 to 1888.
A two-part film about her life was released in 1927-1928 when Germany was reeling from the harsh reparations imposed by the Treaty of Versailles after World War I.
