She was Princess of Wales and heiress to the throne of the United Kingdom until her untimely death in childbirth in 1817. She was married to Leopold I of Belgium who re-married Louise Marie d'Orleans. Leopold had a daughter named Charlotte in honor of this Princess Charlotte. That Charlotte married Archduke Maximillian and went to Mexico with him to become the ill-fated Empress Carlota. Her delivering a stillborn baby caused King George III's other children, her aunts and uncles, to get into the business of producing an heir. The race to produce an heir was won by Uncle Edward and his wife Victoria, Duchess of Kent, when their daughter Alexandrina Victoria became Queen in 1837. Princess Charlotte's Wikipedia article is here.
