Désirée Clary was courted by Napoléon, among others, but she married Field Marshal Jean Baptiste Bernadotte in 1798. She loved Paris and this caused her and her husband to part when he was elected Crown Prince of Sweden where she felt out of place. According to her Wikipedia article, "She herself said that the Swedish nobility had treated her as if they were made of ice: 'Do not talk with me of Stockholm, I get a cold as soon as I hear the word.'"
