SUBALBUM:  Daria (Dorothea) von Lieven

Born in Riga, she was a noted diplomat and served as conduit between Russia and the Anglo-French alliance during the Crimean War. Earlier, she acompanied her husband, Prince Lieven, on his embassy to London in 1812, and greatly enhanced its effectiveness. She knew virtually every statesman in Europe.
