1816 Arrival of Maria Carolina of Two Sicilies (presumably in France for her marriage)

Posted to Foro Dinastias by Pedroro on 2 May 2011.

One major disadvantage of royal birth for a girl - you move to your husband's place, in this case France. Numerous illustrations exist showing women in white Empire dresses with various skirt decorations, especially rouleaux that are seen on just one Lady in the foreground. One Lady to the left wears a scoop neckline while the next Lady wears a high neckline and a high coiffure or headdress. The two Ladies in center foreground wear low necklines, but the Ladies to their right, including the Lady with a rouleau on her skrt, wear high enclosing necklines. The Ladies and girls to the right wear a variety of necklines. All wear skirts with a little fullness behind, long sleeves, and necklines between natural and Empire heights. This painting shows how the restoration dresses of the Modes Parisiennes and Ackerman's fashion plates looked in reality.
