1847-1848 Duke Joseph von Sachsen-Altenburg family portrait by Joseph Karl Stieler (Hermitage)

Next

I believe the woman on the canvas in this 1847-1848 Stieler work is Alexandra Iosifovna who was already in Russia when this was painted. The sitters are Duchess Amalie Therese and Duke Joseph Georg Friedrich while the Lady next to the Duke is Princess Elisabeth Pauline. I cannot identify the Lady to the right. Amalie Therese and Duke Joseph Georg Friedrich had six children, all girls. Four survived to adulthood.

Amalie wears the same headdress seen in this image.

The girls' dresses show cage crinolines are still off in the future while straight coiffures are already firmly established.
