Fashion plates of this era show women with incredibly broad shoulders covered with bertha-epaulettes that rival a USA professional football player. The images on this site show the implementation of the style was not quite so dramatic. This is a fashion plate of 1833 court dress; the dress is unusual in reviving the use of slashing - in the over-skirt.
