1830 (before) Sophie Dawes, Baroness of Feuchère by Alexis Leon Louis Valbrun (location unknown to gogm)

The Wikipedia article about this English adventuress, and possible murderess, who rose to power in the non-Orléans Bourbon restoration courts is here. A photo of a cheesecake wax statue of her is here.

From Wikimedia; image lightened by gogm to bring out details of the skirt.

Empire style is almost gone when this portrait of a military-looking Sophie Dawes was painted. The theme of the bodice, if carried to the hem, would be perfect for a redingote.
