1861 Mathilde by Edouard Louis Dubufe (Versailles)

This 1861 work by Dubufe of Princess Mathilde Bonaparte in full court dress is the most widely circulated portrait of her.

Posted to the Cruise Ship Menus blog on 29 January 2011; this by far the best image of this work that I have seen.

The extensive gold decoration of Princess Mathilde's skirt and train and the complexity of her bodice are wonderfully depicted in this 1861 Dubufe portrait.
