Albumette:  Helene of Thurn und Taxis and Mathilde Trani

Princess Helene Caroline Therese, Néné, was the oldest Wittelsbach daughter, born in 1834. She was to marry Emperor Franz Josef of Austria, but he fell for Helene's younger sister, Elisabeth "Sisi." This created some serious difficulties finding a husband for Helene, but she married Maximilian of Thurn und Taxis, from a wealthy German noble family, in 1858 during the early crinoline era. Their marriage, unlike so many covered in these albums, was happy but he died at the age of 36 in 1867. There is a good German-language site about her here. Her Wikipedia article is here.

Princess Mathilde was the second Wittelsbach daughter to head down to Naples and Sicily. She married Lodovico, Count of Trani in 1861. (Her older sister Maria Sophie had married King Francesco II of the Two Sicilies in 1859.) Her exceptionally brief Wikipedia article is here.
