1840 Charlotte, Lady Malcolm (1789-1867), née Isabella Charlotte Campbell, by Sir Francis Grant (auctioned by Tennants)

Lady Charlotte wears a black veil attached to a white bonnet-like headdress. Her broad, square collar and under-sleeves also add a flash of white. This is plainly mourning dress, but she lost her oldest daughter in 1841 so is the date off by a year or is thepeerage off by a year?

Keywords:  1841, Grant, Isabella Charlotte Campbell, Lady Charlotte Malcolm, Campbell family, Malcolm family, straight coiffure, bun, bonnet, veil, chemise, high neckline, collar, long under-sleeves, bodice, imbecile sleeves, full skirt, over-skirt
