Lady Mary Villiers, full-length, in a white silk dress standing before an open curtain, holding a rose after Sir Anthonis van Dyck (auctioned by Bonhams)

Previous

This may date to when the child bride Mary married Charles, Lord Herbert in 1634. She was 12 and he was 15. He died of Smallpox in 1635.

From Bonhams. Spots and linear flaws removed from throughout image with Photoshop and image made lighter by gogm.

Lady Mary Vlliers' dress has a plain modesty piece compared to the lace specimens worn by so many at this time. Her waist band, with a shallower vee waistline and waistline without the tabbed bodice, will reappear in the very late 1800s.
